Functie

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the site's Safety, Health, Environment and Quality function.
  • Lead and develop a team of approximately eight SHEQ professionals, creating a high-performing and sustainable organisation.
  • Drive a cultural transformation focused on safety ownership, behavioural safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a highly visible leader across the site, building credibility and relationships with employees, contractors, leadership teams, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, permit, and corporate SHEQ requirements.
  • Strengthen the implementation and practical application of existing SHEQ systems, procedures, and life-saving rules across the operation.
  • Develop and execute programmes that increase SHEQ awareness, engagement, and behavioural change.
  • Lead process safety management activities, including risk management, permit-to-work systems, management of change, and operational safety programmes.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and organisational learning initiatives.
  • Manage internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and certification processes.
  • Build strong partnerships with operational leaders to integrate SHEQ priorities into business and production activities.
  • Chair relevant safety committees and represent the organisation with regulatory authorities and industry bodies.
  • Drive performance monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives using SHEQ data and KPIs.
  • Partner with corporate SHEQ teams to align local strategy with broader organisational objectives.
  • Support major projects, shutdowns, turnarounds, and future site development activities from a SHEQ perspective.



Profiel

We are looking for an experienced SHEQ leader who combines strong technical expertise with exceptional people leadership and influencing skills.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record within a high-hazard industrial environment such as chemicals, petrochemicals, energy, heavy manufacturing, or a similar sector. They will be comfortable operating in a complex organisation and have experience leading both compliance-driven and culture-driven SHEQ initiatives.

Key qualities include:

  • Significant SHEQ leadership experience within an industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety management, risk management, environmental compliance, and safety management systems.
  • Experience leading teams and developing people through periods of change and transformation.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all organisational levels, from shop floor employees to executive leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated success in driving behavioural safety programmes and cultural change initiatives.
  • Strong project management and programme development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, challenge constructively, provide feedback, and build trust.
  • A visible and approachable leadership style with a genuine presence across the site.
  • Ability to make decisions, create momentum, and drive execution.
  • Experience working with regulatory authorities, audits, inspections, and governance processes.
  • Understanding of Belgian SHE legislation and local regulatory requirements would be highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to Antwerp or the wider industrial cluster in Belgium and the Netherlands would be beneficial.
