About Our Client

An international mission-driven organization is seeking a people-oriented Senior Manager Finance & Operations with a strong background in finance, taxation, IT, compliance, and process management.

This role is ideal for an experienced leader who enjoys improving operational efficiency, leading multidisciplinary teams, and balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution in a complex international environment.

The Senior Manager Finance & Operations will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies across Finance & Control, IT, Process Management, Security, Procurement, HR, Legal, and Office Operations. The position leads a team of five professionals, reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and is a member of the Management Team.

The role combines leadership, operational management, and direct involvement in finance, reporting, process optimization, and technology management.

Job Description

Finance

  • Coordinate the annual planning and budgeting process in collaboration with senior management and project teams.
  • Prepare, monitor, and control organizational and project budgets.
  • Establish and maintain a robust financial control and management reporting framework.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory, financial, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor, analyze, and explain budget-to-actual variances across departments, projects, and grants.
  • Oversee financial accounting and external audit processes.
  • Advise management on grant administration, contracts, and financial management.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements and stakeholder procedures.
  • Provide guidance on tax compliance in countries where the organization operates.



IT & Process Management

  • Oversee IT systems and infrastructure while ensuring data security and GDPR compliance.
  • Identify and implement innovative digital solutions that improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Promote and embed policies, procedures, and operational standards across the organization.
  • Address operational challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor service quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with external service providers and suppliers.



Leadership & Management

  • Define departmental strategies and establish quarterly priorities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe working environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members while ensuring high-quality performance.
  • Support professional and personal growth aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and sparring partner to the Executive Board and senior leadership team.

The Successful Applicant

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience in a comparable leadership position, preferably within an international organization.
  • Proven experience in improving internal services, processes, and workflows.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams.
  • High level of personal integrity, professionalism, and ethical leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure and in complex environments.
  • Fluent in English written and spoken.
  • Eligibility to work in the Netherlands.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NGO or non-profit accounting structures.
  • Knowledge of Dutch financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing outsourced service providers.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and enterprise software platforms such as Google Workspace, AFAS, and ClickUp.
